A little bit about North Seattle
Over 100 distinct neighborhoods surround downtown Seattle. Each one with a character, identity and attitude of its own. North Seattle is home to the University of Washington – with an alive, vibrant, youthful neighborhood full of Huskie pride. Wallingford, just east to the “U” is known as the Heart of Seattle.” It borders Lake Union to the south and Green Lake to the north and is home to Seattle’s landmark – Dick’s Dive-in, the Wallingford Center, distinctive restaurants, shops, parks and more. A place where there is always something to do! Fremont, just east, is self proclaimed as the “Center of the Universe” and is probably the most eccentrically artistic community in the Greater Seattle area. Truly a mecca for local artists. Its hip and whimsical. Ballard was founded by Scandinavian fishermen whose influence remains to this day, has a lively nightlife – drawing music fans to this trendy area. Green Lake home to many a hipster attracted to the its namesake – the lake is considered by many as Seattle’s “Central Park” offer a vast variety of things to do. These wonderful neighborhoods are all pedestrian, bike and bus friendly – giving them high walkability scores.
Other hidden treasures are neighborhoods like, Blue Ridge – a hillside community with gorgeous sound views. Consisting of 450 homes, it is an affluent community that is purely residential with a private community club – all with limited street access to ensure privacy. Broadview has tall trees and large lots giving it a quiet and country feel – although it does offer more diverse housing options. Laurelhurst sits on a peninsula that juts out into Lake Washington. Large, stately homes with manicured lawns make up this area – many with picturesque views of Mt. Rainier and Lake Washington.

For the Foodies out there, welcome to Mecca! Stroll the streets lined with a vast variety of restaurants to choose from – you will be hard pressed to find a “chain” restaurant in some of these neighborhoods. Imagine the possibilities with all the ethnic varieties available!

Seattle offers a little bit of everything for all to enjoy. Many in North Seattle relish the ability to live, shop, eat, and play all within walking distance of home. Many are drawn to the popular nightlife in North Seattle with live music, microbreweries, neighborhood bars, wine bars and more. Must see and do things include: the Woodland Park Zoo, the Fremont Troll, the Ballard Locks, the monthly ArtWalk, the Burke Museum, the Farmer’s Markets and so much more!
Parks and Recreation
Even with the “urban sprawl” many Seattle-ites love the outdoors and all it has to offer. Seattle is home to over 400 parks and/or open areas with over 6200 acres of park land. Green Lake is just one the North Seattle parks, offering a 3 mile walking/jogging/biking/skating path along with fishing, boat rentals, wading pools, tennis, golf and picnicking. Or switch gears and enjoy the sweeping views of the Puget Sound, hiking trails, and beach access of Carkeek Park in the community of Broadview. Capture the iconic “Seattle Skyline” from Gas Works park – a wonder open space park located on the north end of Lake Union.
